ToolKits Available to Assist Individuals and Families Locate Competent Personal Care Workers

Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities, as one of its current investment projects, is tackling the problems people have being supported by personal care workers. In partnership with UIC's Institute on Disability and Human Development and U. of Minnesota's Institute on Community Integration a multi-faceted, systemic approach is demonstrating how use of best practices can positively impact the many problems.

Individuals who need personal assistance often struggle to keep good workers. To bring proven methods and tools to individuals, the project developed Toolkits, find choose & keep great DSPs. These are designed to assist individuals with disabilities or their families in recruiting, hiring, and keeping well matched, competent personal care workers.

Copies of both Toolkit versions, for the individual with a disability and for a family member, are now available. Downloading is possible from the project web site and ICDD's web site.
