Welcome!

The Division of Public Health Strategic Plan for 2007-2009 is a working document to keep DPH focused on its primary mission: To protect and promote the health of Alaskans.  We believe this plan will help us build on past successes and continue our progress. Please review this website to learn more about the new plan and to send your feedback via the form at the bottom of this page.  Among other materials, this site includes links to the October 2006 Alaska Public Health Training Network broadcast in which the new Strategic Plan was unveiled to DPH employees, and to the PowerPoint presentation used at the Alaska Health Summit in December 2006. I appreciate your interest in this subject – our new plan was designed to not just keep the Division focused internally, but also to strengthen our partnerships with the entire public health system in Alaska. Please let us know your thoughts.

What is the Strategic Plan?

The plan is a roadmap to help guide us in the years to come in making decisions about policy, funding and the day-to-day operations of the Division. The plan defines the central challenge for DPH as: “Demonstrating positive impact on health status and increasing public awareness of the role of public health.” From there, the DPH Executive Leadership Team then identified five main goals to help us meet that challenge, as well as three cross-cutting strategies to consider as decisions are made. The leadership team believes implementation of a new Strategic Plan is especially important in a time of transition of the Division, as well as strengthening the statewide public health system.
