Kodiak
The Kodiak Island Borough lies
250 miles southwest of Anchorage in the Gulf of Alaska.
Commercial fishing and seafood processing are the major
industries. The area also serves as a transportation hub
for southwest Alaska, and contains a large U. S. Coast
Guard base. Communities include Kodiak, Old Harbor, Larson
Bay and Port Lions. The island is the home of the Alutiiq
people.
