About Alaska Health Profiles Online

Alaska Health Profiles Online have information that may be useful for grant proposals, community needs assessments, health education, and health planning. One click on the map leads to data for the specific region from the Alaska Bureau of Vital Statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance Survey (BRFSS). Much of the information is presented for Alaska Natives as well as all Alaskans.

The Alaska Health Profiles combine data from some of the smallest boroughs and census areas to produce numerators and denominators large enough for statistical stability.

Links to community, state, and national sources of health statistics are included. "How to Use Health Statistics" provides definitions and explanations of statistical terms to help users choose the best health indicators for their own projects.

Future versions of the system will include economic indicators, updates of Vital Statistics information, and birth and death rates based on the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development population estimates. Users will be able to query databases to develop their own statistics by year, sex, race, age, and geographic area.

For the most recent years’ birth and death counts available from the Alaska Bureau of Vital Statistics, see the Bureau’s statistics web page. Death statistics in the profiles below aggregates data for the previous decade.
