School Health Program
The purpose of the School Health Program is to work with the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (EED), school districts, and other organizations in order to enhance school health programming and improve the school health environment. The School Health Program promotes healthy and safe behaviors among students by supporting Coordinated School Health Programs and providing a scientific basis for school health program planning and evaluation.
The program promotes and offers expertise on the eight components of the Coordinated School Health Program Model including:
- Health Education
- Physical Education
- Nutrition Services
- School Health Services
- Parent and Community Involvement
- Healthy School Environment
- Counseling, Psychological and Social Services
- Health Promotion for Staff
The program also coordinates the Alaska Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) under an agreement with the Department of Education and Early Development.
